Andrew Lewellen is a writer based in Los Angeles.

He grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but lived a dual life between this liberal university town and blue-collar world of the manufacturing company his father owned in Belleville, Michigan, 20 miles east of Detroit. He grew up working for his dad, as a painter, machinist, and expert floor sweeper where he learned the value of both a hard day’s work and a college education.

In college, he played Division I soccer at Wake Forest, then Division III soccer at the College of Wooster. After college, he lived in England and New York, coaching soccer, then decided it was time to get serious about life, so he pursued a writing career. He earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Southern Illinois University, then moved to Chicago to start a family and work in advertising.

After working in advertising in Chicago – a path of some of his idols – he moved with his family, to Los Angeles, where he built a career as a sportswriter and freelance copywriter and digital content strategist. He wrote for ESPN, The New York Times, Grantland.com, and other national and regional outlets. His final piece of sportswriting was traveling to Paris to profile a female German soccer player, a Muslim who had endured a terrorist attack in the city. Then, he transitioned to screenwriting. His pilots won the UCLA Pilot competition, have placed in including PAGE and the Austin Film Festival, and been in consideration at NBC Universal, eOne, and HBO.
